We reference the Gospel always, so what is the Gospel?

The gospel is the glorious message of God’s saving work through Jesus Christ. It begins with the holiness of God—perfect in righteousness, justice, and love. God created humanity to reflect His image, but due to our rebellion against Him through sin, we have fallen under His judgment, wrath and spiritual death (Romans 3:23).

But God, rich in mercy, sent His Son to redeem us.  Jesus Christ lived the life we could not live—fully obedient to the Father—and died the death we deserved, bearing the wrath of God on the cross. He rose from the grave in victory, securing forgiveness, righteousness, and eternal life for all who repent and believe (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21).

The gospel is not a call to self-improvement or religious performance. It is a summons to turn from our sin and trust in Christ alone for salvation. To those who ask, “What must I do to be saved?” the answer is clear: “Repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

This is not merely a momentary decision—it is a lifelong surrender. To follow Christ is to die to self, take up your cross daily, and walk in newness of life (Luke 9:23; Romans 6:4). It is to be transformed by grace and empowered by the Spirit to live for the glory of God.

What Comes Next?

If you’ve repented and trusted in Christ, your journey has just begun. Scripture calls every believer to be part of a local church—a body of believers committed to worship, discipleship, accountability, and mission (Hebrews 10:24–25; Acts 2:42). The church is not optional; it is God’s design for your growth and His glory.

If you’re in the Polk County area, we warmly invite you to visit our home church, Grace Life Church of Ankeny. It’s a place where the gospel is preached, the Word is treasured, people love and live lives that are being shaped by the grace of Christ.
